Wellbeing Martial Arts - Instructors
Geoff Jackson SHIHAN (5th Dan)
Geoff’s passion for martial arts began in childhood on his parents’ farm in rural Victoria, inspired by the martial arts shows he watched growing up. He began training in 1978 in an old church hall in St Arnaud, learning Goju Kai karate. After moving to Melbourne, he continued his journey in 1987 under Shihan Bob Curzon‑Siggers at the Heishin‑Kai Karate school.
Two years later, Geoff relocated across the city to start a family with his wife Merima, placing martial arts on hold while he built his career and raised their three children.
In 1997, he returned to training, this time in Goju Ryu through the Goju Kensha system founded by Tadahiko Ohtsuka O‑Sensei.
Following a successful corporate career in Safety and Human Resource Management, Geoff founded Wellbeing Martial Arts in 2014 to pursue his passion for promoting well‑being through martial arts. He now holds a 5th Dan (Godan) in Goju Ryu, a Certificate IV in Fitness from the Australian College of Physical Education, and is a Level 1 instructor with the Martial Arts Industry Association.
Bree McMahon SENSEI -(3rd Dan)
Bree McMahon has always been passionate about a healthy lifestyle. From an early age, Bree was involved in sports and outdoor activities, eventually pursuing a passion in SCUBA diving. In 2002, Bree became a qualified Open Water SCUBA Dive Instruction, it was here that she discovered another passion – teaching. Bree did further training and became a qualified instructor in deep diving, wreck diving, drift diving and rescue diving. Training others in such an intricate and potentially dangerous sport helped Bree to learn a unique set of teaching skills that benefit her as an instructor at Wellbeing Martial Arts today.
Bree passed her love of sport onto her children, who enrolled in Karate training with Sensei Geoff in 2015. Watching from the sidelines wasn’t enough for Bree, who found herself longing to join a class. She signed up for adult classes to help learn self-defence and to help advance her children in their training. Bree, like Sensei Geoff, quickly found herself hooked on martial arts. Bree is currently ranked Sandan (3rd Dan Blackbelt) and is a Level 1 Instructor accreditation from the Martial Arts Industry Association (MAIA).
